Tuesday, March 13 // Winchester, VA // The Day Before the Show
5:15 PM – After a 2.5-hour drive from Richmond, I arrive at the theater inside Handley High School. 6:00 PM – Load-in begins. The crew gets to work unpacking serious gear: massive speakers, subwoofers, and enough cabling to power a small city. When the school electrician can’t make it, the team reroutes power from the football scoreboard to make the show happen. 6:30 PM – A Walmart run with the client to grab last-minute items: tablecloths, utensils, sweet tea, snacks, and backstage essentials. 8:30 PM – Back to the hotel. Tomorrow’s schedule starts early—and ends late. Wednesday, March 14 // Winchester, VA // Show Day 7:15 AM – The school parking lot looks like a tour stop: three buses and a semi-truck ready to back in. Trace travels with a crew bus, a band bus, his personal bus, and a semi packed to the brim with production gear. 7:20 AM – “Backing of the buses” begins. The school’s fenced breezeway offers the only path to the stage door, so buses and trucks are maneuvered one by one in perfect sequence—a ritual as much as a necessity. 7:30 AM – After giving Trace’s tour manager a quick venue tour, we start setting up signs and transforming school spaces into professional production zones:- “Trace Only” dressing room beneath the stage
- “Trace Adkins Production Crew ONLY” in the teacher’s lounge
- “Backstage Access: Laminate Required” at the stage door
