Sometimes the stars and planets align and things that can be difficult come surprisingly easy. Such is the case with the formation of Dead 27s. After playing a few casual gigs, the obvious chemistry could no longer be ignored. Since 2012, the band has been on a mission. Relentlessly making their way through the booming Charleston, SC music scene, the Dead 27s garnered the attention and praise of local media, calling them, “the exciting new band to watch” and fan support soon followed. In 2013, Dead 27s took home multiple Charleston City Paper Music Awards for “Song of the Yearâ€, “Rock Band of the Yearâ€, “Up and Coming Artist of the Yearâ€, and guitarist Wallace Mullinax was honored with his second straight award as Charleston’s “Guitarist of the Yearâ€. The band has since opened for Toubab Krewe, Patterson Hood, Col. Bruce Hampton, Orgone, Chris Robinson Brotherhood and shared the stage at festivals with many others. Their sound has been described as “a Southern blend of rock and soulâ€. In April 2014 and to much critical acclaim, Dead 27s released their 7 song debut, “Chase Your Devils Downâ€. In summer 2014, the band was honored to place in the top 24 for Vh1’s “Make a Band Famous†competition. Although their sound comes from many different influences, the band has their focus on the future. Currently touring while writing and recording, the band continues to gain momentum as they spread their music across the country.
