Founded by popular Asheville musician Ben Phan, this supergroup of virtuoso musicians formed around a desire to play a variety of genres with one band- bluegrass, jazz, pop and rap. A highly versatile group, Gypsy Grass can play classy swing jazz all day, then throw a foot stomping dance party all night. While the band can easily hold their own within each genre, they have the unique ability to fuse the styles in an engaging, organic, and captivating way. They also have a special knack for covering popular songs with fresh and authentic style.
The full 5-piece band consists of Ben Phan on guitar and vocals, Cynthia McDermott on mandolin and vocals, Drayton Aldridge on violin and vocals, Andrew Platt on upright bass, and Bennett Sullivan on banjo. They can perform in any combination of the group, from the full size band all the way down to a duo.
