artist bio:

The members of Temperance League exited the stage, drenched in sweat and laughing, after performing to a sold-out Charlotte Uptown Amphitheater this past April. They were greeted backstage by their host, Grammy winners Alabama Shakes, whom after hearing the thunderous applause of 7,000 fans, urged the opening act to play an encore for their hometown crowd.

After years of work and struggle in the music industry, the independent, creative team of music veterans have finally begun to receive some much deserved attention.

This June the North Carolina based sextet released Day of the Dove, their 4th full-length effort in five years. Working once again with famed producer Mitch Easter (R.E.M., Let’s Active, Pavement, Wilco) at his Kernersville Fidelitorium studio.

The band has proven one of the most consistent and prolific rock bands today.

From its Punky political beginnings to forays into ‘60’s Rock & Roll, ‘70’s Garage Rock, Springsteen-ian earnest rock and Elvis Costello-ish, working class New Wave, the band’s sound has continued to evolve.

The two-guitar attack of Shawn Lynch and Chad Wilson tears through muscular rhythms-delivered by drummer David Kim and bassist Eric Scott and ably decorated by keyboardist Jay Garrigan. Singer Bruce Hazel’s impassioned vocals at the fore, the group unleashes hook after hook.

The sophomore album, aptly titled ‘Rock and Roll Dreams’ quickly ensured that their reputation as a charismatic, compelling live band would now include the notion of them also being studio savants. It wound up on numerous regional publications’ and critics’ Best-of- 2013 lists.  It also earned Temperance League their first arena appearance with the legendary Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band.

‘The Night Waits’ followed and was the one to extend the group’s reputation across the country and beyond. Several album tracks garnished steady regional radio play and the band moved up to performing at national music festivals.

Heading toward the back end of their first decade together, the band’s songs seem tighter, their hooks bigger, their steps surer than at any point previously—you sense that Temperance League keeps finding new ways of reaching that sweet spot.

Temperance League’s sound remains gutsy and melodic but they have clearly upped their songwriting and arranging games.
