Brittany Sims was born in 1985 in Washington DC. She attended the Academy of the Holy Cross in Kensington, MD and studied art and art history at Tulane University in New Orleans.
In 2005 Hurricane Katrina disrupted her studies. During her unintended sabbatical from New Orleans, Brittany further developed her artistic vision at both Fordham University in New York and John Cabot University in Rome before returning to Tulane to complete her BFA in painting in 2007.
In 2007 Brittany studied with renowned portrait artists Cedric and Joanette Egeli in Edgewater, Maryland. Working alongside the artists as an apprentice, Brittany cultivated and refined her skills in portraiture and figure articulation.
In 2008 Brittany began the MFA program at the New York Studio School focusing again on painting. After her thesis show in May 2010, Brittany won the prestigious Hohenberg Travel Grant, and spent the summer studying art in London. Her studies abroad culminated in a final show at the New York Studio School in January 2011.
In the summer of 2011, Brittany was selected as an Artist in Residence at Strathmore in Bethesda. As an Artist in residence, Brittany was featured in a gallery show alongside a select group of notable, young, up and coming artists from the Washington, DC area.
Brittany completed a 2 month residency as a Bresler Resident at VisArts in Rockville, MD, and is recently had a solo show at Bethesda ArtWorks in Bethesda, MD.
Additionally, Brittany has worked as a subcontractor for various Washington, DC design and finishing firms. Brittany has been involved with both high end finishings and fine art at such restaurants as Lincoln, Sax, Irish Whiskey, Capitale and Pacifico, as well as numerous private and residential projects in the DC area.
