Located ten miles from Center City and two miles from shopper’s haven, South Park, Whitehead Manor is a hidden gem in Charlotte, NC. The historic manor is the perfect event space for those looking for a country setting with all the conveniences that being urban provides.
The Victorian-era house was built in 1895 by the pastor of Sardis Presbyterian Church for a grand sum of $1,800. Although 121 years old, the home retains some original wood adding to its historic charm. In 1984, the home was bought and restored by Frank and Peggy Dearien who turned it into a popular bed & breakfast.
In 2004, the home was purchased and renovated again by Mike Whitehead and his family. Since then, this history rich building has served as the home of The Center for Intentional Leadership, a leadership and culture development firm. A 5,000 square foot conference center was added to the property in 2008. The conference center is a contemplative, creative space offering high-tech amenities alongside meandering gardens, with a special emphasis on hospitality. Both facilities, the Victorian home and Conference Center, are designed for meetings, receptions, and events that strive to offer a special touch for corporate retreats, weddings and other celebrations.
Whitehead Manor social events director, Ashton Ward, elaborates, “Whitehead Manor is a place where you are going to experience true Southern hospitality — from the people who work here to our wraparound porches and rocking chairs!” I couldn’t agree more. As an entertainment agent, I familiarize myself and make site visits to venues throughout the area. Whitehead Manor is in an amazing location, has beautiful grounds and stunning facilities. However, the people of Whitehead Manor are what truly set it apart.
One of my favorite aspects of this venue is that they only host one wedding per weekend. Clients never have to worry about sharing the facilities with competing events! They also have two on-site event planners who handle everything involved in the big day — from start to finish. It is the perfect venue for those looking for an effortless event.
