Tellico is an exceptional product of Asheville NC's thriving roots music scene, its members well schooled in bluegrass but with an unbridled organic Appalachia-cana sound. Known for their rootsy, authentic singing, as well as hard-edged yet nostalgic themes of their songwriting, the quartet combines some of the finest voices, songs and instrumental prowess in North Carolina and beyond.

Tellico's sound perfectly complements the mountain setting of area events while still appealing to a wide audience and varying musical tastes. For ceremonies, the combination dobro (resonator guitar), mandolin and guitar creates a mesmerizing effect reminiscent of the Rice/Grisman "Tone Poems" album. For private events, cocktail hours and wedding receptions, the pulse becomes more varied, from lively, danceable numbers (including a switch to the fiddle and banjo for parts of sets) to slower, more poignant sounds appropriate for special moments. Expect top-notch performances of original material as well as well-chosen covers of classic bluegrass, old-time and country tunes.

Tellico's members have many years of experience performing at private events and working with clients to create the perfect soundtrack to match the unique personality of each event. Past clients have remarked on our commitment to work with them ahead of time to confirm every detail to be sure that on the day of the event, everything goes smoothly and thoughtlessly on their part (please see review page for more feedback). Additionally, we draw from our extensive experience and repertoire for ideas and suggestions in case guidance for certain musical or logistical aspects of the event is needed.

About the band:

Tellico features the singing and songwriting of Anya Hinkle (guitar, fiddle) and Stig Stiglets (bass, harmonica), with Aaron Ballance on dobro and Jed Willis on mandolin and clawhammer banjo. The band's members have performed at some of the nation's most prestigious festivals and venues including Merlefest, Gettysburg Bluegrass Festival, Bristol Rhythm and Roots, Mountain Song Festival, and the Freight and Salvage. Aaron also won the Rockygrass Dobro Competition in 2010. Anya, Stig and Aaron recorded under the Rebel Records label in 2011 for their former band Dehlia Low's "Ravens and Crows" album.

Tellico’s set lists work primarily from their own original material but draw also from various sources in the bluegrass, old time, folk, country and rock genres. In addition to the many traditional bluegrass and old time instrumentals, the band covers songs by Bill Monroe, the Stanley Brothers, Seldom Scene, John Hartford, Norman Blake, the Carter Family, Doc Watson, Flatt and Scruggs, Ola Belle Reed and many more. In the folk, rock and country genres, the band covers John Prine, Elvis Presley, Randy Newman, Bob Dylan, Patty Griffin, Bonnie Raitt, the Beatles, and others. For special events/weddings, the band has played anything from Canon in D to Green Day.
